Engineering Machinery Accidents

There are many thousands of accidents and cases of ill health every year in engineering workshops. Between 10 -15% of accidents involve the use of machinery.

Below are just a selection of recent machinery accidents and prosecutions in engineering premises.

National Steel firm has been fined £1.98M plus costs of £22,500 after two workers suffered injuries to their hands in two separate incidents involving machinery

Engineering company in Worcestershire, fined more than £380,000 for safety failings after an employee was inspecting a rocket motor for damages received during the manufacturing process

A Sheffield engineering company has been fined £55,000 and ££2,107 costs after a worker became entangled in a rotating metal bar on a lathe

A Leeds company has been fined £20,000 and £4,014 in costs after a worker suffered injury when his hand came into contact with a lathe.

Other engineering machinery prosecutions in recent months have resulted in over £60,000 being issued in fines and costs. These include a worker suffering severe burns and a fork lift truck operator being killed. Visit HSE's Press Release Website for more information.
